Joni Ernst understands the needs of Southwest Iowa. Born and raised in Montgomery County, she is now returned home after serving around the country with the United States Military. Joni and her husband Gail have been married for 18 years, and share three daughters.
Joni is serving her 18th year in the US Army Reserves and the Iowa Army National Guard. She is currently serving as a Major in the Iowa Army National Guard. Joni spent 14 months mobilized and overseas in Kuwait in 2003-2004, at the start of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Prior to serving as your State Senator, Joni served for six years as Montgomery County Auditor. During this time, she participated in a legal case to assure all State of Iowa voting documents are printed in English, as English is the official language. Because of this case, all State of Iowa documents are now printed in English only.
